Detailed Test;
The type of test that I’m going to be doing is on how well the ball point pen actually does work and weather if people prefer using it or not. I will have 9 people taking the test. I will be making them use a ball point pen. The pen that they will be using will be the same kind. Then they are to decide and tell me which they prefer using a regular pen or a ball point pen. These are the questions they will be answering:
1. Which one do you think is easier to use? Ball point pen or just a normal pen?
2. Do you use ball point pens regularly?
3. Do you own a ball point pen?
4. If you do then tell us what are the bad things about it.
This will be a simple test that would only take between 5 to 10 minutes. Although it may be a short test this will give me an idea on weather a ball point pen is popular amongst our ages and up. The people I will be asking are 4 boys and 5 girls. They will also differ by where the come from. So, for the guy I will survey one Korean, one Ghanaian, a Russian and a Mongolian. For the girl I will be surveying one Korean, a Mongolian, a German, one USA and one Lithuanian. The list that I chose here differ because then I will be able to get different culture preferences. The survey sheet will be made and printed out before.

Poster test;
1. Is is neat?
2. Is it clear?
3. Does it have the basic and important information?

The unit question: How do inventors come up with ideas and create their inventions?
Inventors come up with the idea after their years of experience with the things they use. For example the ball point pen. Just a random journalist got tired of working with ink pens that dried quickly and did not turn out neat. Then he decided to invent a pen that is efficient and that does not smudge. So, then he started to work out a way to invent it. He got the idea and made his first design and started to sell them. So, the ideas just doesn’t pop in a persons head “just like that” but it comes to mind when it needs improvement. They create their inventions with the help of other people and also create it by using the things around them.
Although sometimes inventors may come up with the ideas by researching them. Becoming an inventor is not an easy job. You have to do your research and survey people to see weather it is needed or not. Researching is not an easy job to do, you have to look up at all the consequences of it and weather it is profitable or not. If its not then you just wasted you time and money.
Creating Ones invention is not that hard but coming up with the design may be, in order to creates something that no one had ever seen or had is tough. You need to be creative but also realistic.

Criterion A

This semester's unit is called "Inventions and Inventors". It is an interesting unit so far. This units's main question is "How do inventors come up with ideas and create their inventions"?
This question is supposed to be answered in our final assessment when we are presenting. This units learner profile is being a Risk-taker and from the AOI we, as the class chose Human ingenutiy.
Basically what we have to do is, first we had to make a list of apporperiate questions about the invention or the inventor and research on it. While researching we had to copy the URL. When we are done we had to post it on our blogs. This was all due last class and this part was the investigation.
Later on we have to put the URL's into a correct citation format and post it again on our blogs also we have to write a paragraph or more on what the unit is and what we have to do. The unit is basically to research about an invention that we chose and later on present it to the class. The way we present it can be either written, audio or however you want.
This unit seems to be really fun and free. The fact that we are all kinda interested in this unit would make a difference on how each of us would present it.
This unit is relevant because it is linked with the whole semesters unit.

Ouestions and Answers about the Inventor and the Invention :)

The Ball Point Pen
1. How much does a regular pen cost?
The cost of the pen tends to differ by the shape and the amount in it. Sometimes it’s sold in packets and sometimes it not. They usually cost no more than 4 dollars mostly.

2. What is the definition of a good ball point pen?
A definition of a good pen is when it doesn’t smudge too much and when the ink dries up quickly when applied onto the paper, also when it is cheap and in good quality.

3. Did ball point pens influence anything?
Yes, it did influence our lives. It enhanced the way we write and the speed of writing, also the number of people who use it. It mainly improved the way astronauts wrote, because ball point pens were the kind of pens that did not explode or leak on zero gravity. So, by this the people outer space tended to use pens instead of pencils.

4. Is it possible to re-use a ball point pen?
Yes, it is possible you can change the ink once it’s finished. You can either refill or replace the ink.

5. Are ball point pens still popular today? Are they still used?
Yes, they are they are used in our everyday life. In each house there are several or more ball point pens at home. These pens don’t leak which then are popular amongst business people and even students. Also the fact that it is simple and easy to use attracts more consumers. They are popular because they are efficient, cheap, and good and are mostly in good quality.

6. Ball point pen and pen manufactures.
-BIC
-Monami
-Montblanc
-Cartier

7. Are there different types, colors of ball point pens?
Yes, there are variety of colors such as blue, black and red. Mostly it’s these 3 main colors but sometimes there’s purple, pink, green and etc…
Also there are different types of ball point pens there are some with a turning effect and another type is when you press the top and the spring. The spring then will press down the pen’s ink. There are even other types like a cap pen.

8. How did the biro brothers think of making the ball point pen using a ball on the tip?
They came up with the idea of inventing the whole ball point pen, when Laszlo was working on a newspaper. He realized that the ink dried up really quickly and it often smudged and got messy. He was tired of it, so he invented the ball point pen. They got the idea of using a ball on the tip of the pen from a deodorant. The deodorant also works by a ball on the tip and when it is rolled the liquid comes out. With this in mind that is how the ball point pen works as well.

9. What are the bad sides of using a ball point pen?
There aren’t too much problems with the ball point pen. Only that sometimes when you write there could be an ink blot on your paper which then will lead to smudges.

10. How did ball point pens end up being famous? It was famous for its capability of being used in high altitudes. Often other pens such as fountain pens would explode or even leak but the ball point pen did not. It was also famous for its good quality and its cheap price. Also because the ink dries as soon as it’s applied onto the paper.

Evaluation for Inventions and Inventors

Evaluation
This unit was a called “Inventions and Inventors”, it was a fun and interesting unit. Aiste and I had some difficulties in the beginning but at the end it was easy and fun. This project was focused on human ingenuity and risk taker. We the class chose these two because it seemed to be the most well connected. By being a risk taker we take risks and as an inventor we need to take wild risks don’t knowing weather it will succeed or not. Without being a risk taker a person can’t experience new things.
Then we chose human ingenuity because inventions are something that Man make and invent. We invent new things for a good cause and sometimes for a bad cause. For this unit these two things fit the best.

Investigation:
For the investigation we went online and started to research. We even did a survey of the class. We asked our classmates and over a half of them said that they did not want to buy it because it is not that necessary. We also researched by using books and internets and found some facts. We found that there is a solar panel that can also heat up a building and etc… We tried to get as much as information but there didn’t seem to be a lot. We also looked at pictures of normal key detectors and got some ideas of how to design our key detector. During the research although we couldn’t get as much information as we could have we got the basic and essential ones. We found few information on the different kinds of solar power and how the solar panle on the calculator works. We also found out which parts to change to the key detector and which parts to make better.

Design:
Aiste and I had started on our design a bit late. No matter, we had come up with a good design. We decided to make a 3d model of the solar key detector instead of a poster. We were going to have the actual feature of the detector. It was going to be big so, everyone could see it and it was going to be interesting with wires inside it, showing. Our design of the solar key detector was that on the front there will be a speaker, solar panel, 2 lights and a button to press on. On the back would be another solar panel, speaker, censor and a battery change. We decided to have 2 solar panels and 2 speakers just incase the key detector is put upside down. We thought of many different designs but after combining our 6 other designs we came up with this one. To us, it seemed efficient and useful. Also we decided on that the key detector is 7cm width and 8 cm length. We also decided that there are different shapes and colors. This way we thought that it would attract more buyers.

Plan:
Our original plan was to meet on Saturdays and Sundays to start and finish the key detector but it did not happen. We did not meet on the first Saturday because of some reasons but we did meet on Sunday. Although we did not meet on Saturday we had most of the material that we needed ready like the spray paint, glue, tape, box and oasis and so on also not to mention wires… Also on Monday we worked on some more of the design and typed some information. Also we spray painted the box after school. Then on Wednesday we typed all the information and it was ready. So, then we were supposed to meet again on Saturday the 6th and Sunday the 7th but we only met on Sunday and printed everything out and started to glue everything on the box. The plan was changed from time to time because we did not have the time to meet, but we still got it done: D.

Create:
We created the box and it was a lot of fun. While, spray painting the smell of the box was horrible and very very strong but we dealt with it. We had not bought enough black so, we ended up cutting up half of the box in order to keep it pretty. While creating it we did have some problems for instance the glue did not stick onto the oasis and that the smell of spray paint was too strong that we had to do it carefully. We overall had fun creating this product. The box was interesting enough on the inside with all the wires and information. The outside could have been done a bit better but we’re both very pleased and satisfied with it.
