Evaluation

Overall, this unit was a fun and interesting unit that kept me going. Through this unit I got the experience of filming an entrance video and what to say. I got to learn about myself as well; I got to see what different jobs that fits me the best. There were several results such as a shampooer, veterinarian, and patisserie and so on...

In my opinion I think for me this unit was a success because I had all the things I needed in order to make an entrance video and I had completed it. Although there were some troubles on the way I had overcome them and finished my task.

Investigation:
I had to write about the things I liked and the things I enjoyed. After investigating and writing about me, I had to go online to the specific site and look at the different jobs that were suitable and had to choose a job. I ended up choosing what I wanted from the beginning. I chose my career job as becoming a veterinarian. After choosing my career job I had to do more research on that specific job. I looked up which schools provided a veterinary education and chose a university. I also looked up the incomes and how much I would get paid. Through investigation I got to learn more about what it becomes to be a veterinarian and what I have to do. It was a good experience for me. If I was to improve my criterion A. I would have done more research on more schools and how much their tuition. If I had done more specific research I would have gotten more information and would have added it on the video.

Design:
For design we had to explain why we chose the job we chose and background information on it. I said I chose becoming a veterinarian because I wanted to cure sick animals and help them. I personally love all animals but I do favour some more than others but every time I heard about animal cruelty I wanted to make a change. It might not be that when I grow up I would be a veterinarian but it’s definitely on my list of choices. Suggestions for this step would be that if I had described more in detail why and how I wanted to become a veterinarian it might have bumped my grade to a higher mark.

Create:
The create part was the most tiring process. The part when I wrote the speech was fun because I got to write down what I had learned but when it came to the part of making the video, it was tiring. I had filmed it more than 5-6 times. I first filmed it at home but it didn’t end up being so good so I filmed it at school and then I filmed it more at home. I wanted to complete the video within one full video but it was hard. My words weren’t clear enough or I wasn’t loud enough. This was a tough job and since I was doing it all alone it made it harder. The speech and what I was going to say didn’t matter because I had already gathered all the information but when it came to filming it, although I was alone I got nervous and started to babble. If I were to fix it or improve it I would have memorized my speech and would have said it slowly. Also I would have asked someone to help me at home. At school Aiste had helped me film it.

The product is fairly good because I spent my time on it. I had worked with Movie Maker and studied the different effects. Although I had used it before I had forgot but after this project it refreshed my mind. I’m not sure if my video was persuasive enough or not but I did have all the information that was needed. I had the mentioned the requirements, skills and interests, training and experiences. I had all the information the video asked for. Aiste had seen my outline of the video since she helped me film it. She said that I needed to look more into the camera rather then the paper. She said that I had all the necessary information and that it was good. Although there were still some parts to fix, so after listening to her advice I went home and did and tried as she suggested.
I think throughout the year, this was the most fun unit. It had given me the chance to learn more about myself and research on what I wanted to become. Who knows this might even help me in the future of becoming a veterinarian.

Filming a university entrance video

Filming a university entrance video (Rebekah Shin)
What I should include;
1. Future Career Goal- to become a veterinarian

2. Qualifications- I have worked as an intern in Mongolia. Throughout my school years I had high grades mostly in the areas of math and science which is essential in order to become a veterinarian.

3. Educational Background- I’m a graduate student from ISU and IB school. I have studied about being a veterinarian and had experiences and training.

4. Extra-curricular activities- I work at a vet shop in Mongolia and help get the stray dogs out of the streets and find them a home

5. Volunteer work- Every Saturdays and Sundays I go out and work with the other veterinarians and cure animals without getting paid

6. What makes me so special- I have the experience with dogs and when my pet dog, Darong goes to the vet I go with him and observe. I also have strong affections towards animals and I feel the need to help these animals in the streets of Mongolia and everywhere in the world

The task of a veterinarian;
The task of this job is simple; you just have to make quick decisions when sick animals come to you. You have to cure them and although it can be hard and difficult. This job is for real animal lovers. Personally I really love animals but sometimes they can be very irking but in the end they are so adorable and cute.
This job also requires facility check and home check of these animals. On what I read it says that you have to check these animals’ homes and see if it’s clean and if the animal is being treated correctly.

Design your video:
Where you should film it
Around the couch area where it looks fairly formal and neat OR at home downstairs where the couches are

What you’ll wear
I will be wearing just normal clothes (jeans and a shirt) I chose to just wear comfortable clothing because this is a video that I should feel comfortable in and a video I should be able to express what I feel and my personality. I want my video to be simple and not too flashy and intense

What you should include (what you will say)
I will include a video of my 2 dogs to show how I love animals. I will be talking mostly about what the job does and why I want to become a veterinarian

Who will film it for you?
My one of my friends if they have time or my sister when I get home

What program you’ll use to edit it
I will edit the video on Windows Movie Maker

Background music, if any
Yes, I’m going to play a background movie while playing the video of the 2 dogs.

Twitter Fall

Ms. Wilson- Had to pay back her loan after college. Worked through 1-3 jobs. Worked at a pizza place and got free food. Working as a waitress you get paid low so, you tend to go for tips and try to please the customers. A good job learning to read eyes, faces and what they want. Most worked for 8 hours and made her feet hurt. For her it was a really rewarding job and she enjoyed it. Her highest tip was from 5-10 dollars. Her wage was 3 dollars per hour.

Mr. chilton- Worked on a construction site. Built and constructed water proof houses. He got 10-15 dollars per hour. He got paid fairly well. He had variety of jobs. He also cleaned machines from the inside and the outside. He saw few people get injured.

Ms. McDermott- Got a masters degree and ended up working to earn money. Decided to learn and teach at a community college. She was teaching teachers as well. In order to be a tech trainer you need to be well-organized and approachable. Also not judgemental and you need to know what you are doing. MPA is working and doing good for the government and the people. when she graduated she worked as a secretary and then went to Taiwan. Then she wanted to become a teacher and she decided to teach math to people. She had a variety of jobs as well.

Ms. Hill- woked as a private investigator. Mainly worked as an insurance. Also investiaged people, cellphones to find out what happened. It can get dangerous becuase some people can be violent. There were even some murders and killing. Although it can be interesting and fun for the first few years but after a while it can get boring. She earned about 30-40 thousand dollars and got bonuses on the way.

Ms. Griffeth- she worked as a horse trainer, a math tutor, drove a tractor, worked at a gas station, washed dishes, worked at a sales shop, taught chemistry, physics also worked as a researcher, Ran N.G.O, director of the Rinky Dink Travel and lasty a foster mom of 6 children. Ms. Griffeth started to work at a very young age. She drove a tractor from 13 and on. she says that the most difficult job is to become a mom becuase you have no control of the children. she liked training horses and she doesn't like being the director of N.G.O and the Rinky Dink Travel. Since because being the director you need to fire people, and do all the big work.

If I want to become a veterinarian I need to also learn and study mathematics, science, time management and speaking and etc… This job requires a lot of skills and knowledge. Although it is going to be tough trying to cure animals but if they end up dying it’s going to be really heartbreaking.

The task of this job is simple; you just have to make quick decisions when sick animals come to you. You have to cure them and although it can be hard and difficult. This job is for real animal lovers. Personally I really love animals but sometimes they can be very irking but in the end they are so adorable and cute.

Investigation continued...

Investigation continued…
Soccer would be one interest. I liked soccer or began to like it when I was in 7th grade. Being away at ACAMIS with my friends and playing soccer was trememdous fun. Not only did I get to meet new friends and people we came in 2nd place which was a great memory. Another interest would be basketball. Despite the fact of my short height I enjoy playing basketball. No matter how much fun it was there were some difficult offers given such as; becoming fit and exercising more often. Another challenge was that I had to play amongst those who were bigger and better than me and try my best to stand out and play my best. The most important skill is to stay fit or become fitter and also to not eat junk food at all. Also in order to continue playing it I need to practice to get better.
Consider your skills
At school I do volunteer work such as orphanage and other days where we sweep up the field and etc… Although they’re not easy jobs they’re still very fun and I tend to learn more from it. After starting to work and play with the orphans I found out that they are sweet little kids who are very adorable and kind. I used to be afraid of orphans because of watching a scary movie at a young age of a disabled killing people. Now, I’m not afraid I’ve learned that no one is like that and instead they’re all very kind and cute. If I have a free time I tend to spend it with my friends and also tend to spend it by planning things such as what I want to do that day and etc… From experience I found out that planning ahead is always good and keeps you on track and makes things much easier. I usually plan or jot down things that I have to do it makes my day easier because it is all written down.

List or clubs I have belonged to;
1. Soccer
2. Basketball
3. Volleyball
4. Fabric collage
5. Orphanage
6. Jogging for fun

Volunteer work;
1. Sweep up the soccer field
2. Run 4 water
3. Clean up day
4. Talent show

After assessing my interests and skills I think that my possible careers are in the line of sports. Although in real life I don’t want to be sports star or anything. My dream job is to become a veternarian and help those who can’t talk. I want to also become an animal police that gets all the stray animals in the streets in a family that cares and loves it. Also by becoming a police I want to take and sue those who hurt animals violently and cruely. As you can infer I love animals. They’re the sweetest and the most adorable things in the whole-wide world. They’re very affectionate and i abhor those who torture them. I also want to become a baker and bake delicious goodies. I want to enjoy life when I grow up and live on my own. Instead of working under someone my whole life I want to start a buissness and be sucessful.

Shiny Shakespeare’s Show :D

Shiny Shakespeare’s Show
This unit started off as a fun and interesting unit but towards the end the unit was becoming dull and boring. The successful part of this unit was that we all were interested and was into it in the beginning. Another successful part is that we actually made it this far where we chose the script and started to film even just a bit. We had chosen the script written by Tsolmon Tsengel. It had the most votes of 5. I was away at ACAMIS and when I came back everything was changed. Before when I was in a group with Ha-young and Catriona we had things planned but when we returned things didn’t go the way I wanted. Although making a film by choosing one play is the easiest solution it was confusing for me.
Despite the fact that people were away and some people didn’t get the project or started to sense that it wasn’t going too well, we still were able to choose one best script and film it. Although we filmed the whole thing it wasn’t neat, clear nor good. But knowing for the fact that we made it this far pleases and satisfies me a lot.
My performance at each stage of the design cycle was okay. I did them all, for the criterion B I had completed it over the spring break. According to the calendar it was due March 31st so I did it by having my script as the main script but when we got back it was that people had not done it and later we got put into groups. So, then the criterion B that I had done was not necessary.
I had done the investigation fairly neatly and wrote quite a bit. I had talked about what this unit was and the things that we were going to do. I had posted the design specifications and the test that I was going to do, myself. I completed criterion B and answered the design specifications and tested my script to fit it. Then there is another criterion B that we worked on with our groups. The group that I was in was “gossip”. We wrote about what we were doing and the process so far. Then there is another process which we wrote before filming the play. It talks about the actors who got which part and the director and etc…
Suggestions for Improvements;
For this unit there would be several suggestions for improvement. This unit started off as an exciting and interesting unit but as soon as things fell apart and people began to do other unnecessary things the unit became boring and it ended up being a waste of time. For this unit a suggestion can be that from the beginning it should be decided on weather there would be one script filmed or more. Because it wasn’t decided it confused a lot of people.
Another suggestion is that it should be on task and on schedule. After spring break people weren’t so sure on what to do and if we stayed on what the calendar said this unit might have been successful.

Part of the process

So far we haven't gone so far. Some people were confused becuase some people just came from ACAMIS. Right now we all have decided to act out Tsolmon's script. It had the most votes and right now we are divided into three groups. One group who does all the editing and the filming. Another group that acts out the play. The third group is in charge of all the make-up, costumes and settings.
This is the cast:
Host(Iris)-Reeza
Benedick-Uudee
Beatrice-Namuun
Claudio-Erdenebat
Hero-Me
Ursula and Margaret is either Jill or Catriona
Borachio-John
Director-Tsolmon

The cast crew is supposd to memorize and practice the script and the make-up crew is supposed to get the costume list done. The editing group is playing around with movie maker in order to get used to it.

Not everyone is here yet but on wednesday we are going to start filming for practice.

The make up crew;
Ha-young, Aiste, Khaliun

Editing group;
Yea jun, Minjae, Haram

Actors and Actresses;
Me, Uudee, Ebb, John, Namuun, Jill, Reeza, Catriona

and last but not least the director and the script writer person is; TSOLMON

"Gossip" process

Rebekah Shin
Date: 19th of April 2010
Process;
After we got back from spring break not a lot of people knew what to do so, we got divided into groups depending on the genre the script was written. So, far what our group didn’t do a lot. We have decided what to do and the work that we are going to be doing.
First today we are going to get the scripts back and read them through. Then we are going to create and write a combined script combining Jill’s, Catriona’s and my script. Then we are going to start writing the new script if there is time but if not then on Wednesday Ha-young will start writing the combined script since neither of us is going to be here. Ha-young will be working on it for the whole class if not needed then she doesn’t have much to do since the group isn’t going to be there. So then when we get together on Monday we’ll start choosing the actors and the actresses.
Right now we are not doing a lot. Our group is going to finish the plan and the design specifications then post it on each of our blog.
For this unit I don’t mind if my script is not acted out because it might and isn’t the best. It was supposed to be funny and I tried to make it funny but it might not be the way I wanted it to be. So I really do not mind whose script is chosen. Personally since I haven’t read any of the other scripts I don’t know but when I do I might change my mind. So far I think the best way is to combine our scripts.

Criterion B

Criterion B
 Each of the English A students wrote a script but not the final one yet, the final one is due on Friday

List of materials needed and where to get them;
1. Camera that has good sound toning and effects
2. The script that is well-proof read and edited
3. Costumes for the actors and actresses to wear
4. Extra props needed
Most of these materials will come from my house. I’ll be bringing the camera and the script printed and extra props but for the costumes if possible maybe the actors can wear their clothing. If not then I can bring in some or they can just bring in their own.

I can’t evaluate the script just yet because the final one is not written, although the rough draft does fit the design specifications. The rough draft is funny and interesting to read. It is also clear and simple to read. It isn’t that hilarious but I’ll try to make it funny as possible and try to make it appeal to the modern viewers.

I’ll be editing and re-writing the script again before Friday and will be editing the blog for criterion B.

Questions;
1.Track of all the changes I made along the way
2.Explain in detail why I created the final script in the way I did?
3.How does it fit your design specification?
4.Put the final script on the blog

Design Specifications;
The script has to be very easy and clear to read
The actors have to be good actors
The idea has to be clear
The product should be fun and interesting

1. The script is easy and clear to read becuase it is written in a script format
2. I have thought about who should act out who but they're not chosen yet
3. The basic idea is clear and it's easy to understand

Explain why i created the script the way i did;
I made it the way it is beucase i thought it would appeal to the modern viewers. Also because it was the only idea that popped into my head.

The final script fits very well with the design specifications.

Right now i can't upload the final script becuase the file was accidentally deleted so, i'll have to type it up again...

Research+ Design Specification+Test+More questions

For this project we/ I need to research
-How to video and film
-The background research of the book
-Talk shows
-T.V (news)
-Movies

What kind of video have you decided to create?
At this point no one is sure becuase there has to be a script first, but what i do know is that it will be funny and amusing.

what materials will you need?
The basic electronics like a camera, script, costumes and setting(props)

which students will do which jobs? Will you have teams?
At this point i'm not entirely sure but when the script is written, then i will choose the groups and actors. For my script i need very dramatic and obnoxious people. One idea is to dress a guy as a girl and make him act very loud and posh. This will be what modern day viewers would like. In my opinion i think it is better to have teams then things will be way organized.

Design Specifications;
The script has to be very easy and clear to read
The actors have to be good actors
The idea has to be clear
The product should be fun and interesting

Test:
Once I have created the video i will test it on my family or other grade kids and make them watch it. If the response is good then i have achived what i needed to and if not then i might have to modify somethings in order to make it appealing.

Who will test if for you?
-Family
-Some of my classmates
-Some kids from other grades
This will be tested on about 5-6 people. The gender will also be mixed just in case the males have a different humor than the girls.

When and where will you test it?
A possibily is that i can send it to them by mail and ask for their opinions and suggestions and possible improvements OR i can get some of them together and show it to them sometime at my house or at school.

Modern Shakespeare (Investigation)

MODERN SHAKESPEARE
Investigation:

This unit is called Modern Shakespeare and the book that is based on is “Much Ado about nothing”. This is a Shakespeare’s play but it is extremely hard and boring because of the language Shakespeare uses. This unit we will basically be acting out skits. The skits will be in sorts like a talk show, video, game show and etc… In order to make this unit fun we need to know and research the basic background knowledge of how to video. We also need to research on things like T.V programs and most importantly the book. In order to make this happen all of us need to be familiar with the book and how they talk and the characters personalities. Without the background information the whole acting won’t fit to the book and the characters. It is boring to read the whole and not get anything it is better to just go on spark notes or another site and get the basic and essential ideas. Another way to get familiar with the story is to watch the movie this way the idea will get inside your head easily. Looking back it seems that we need to do a few background researches.

This unit AOI and the learner profile are Approaches to learning and Communicators. We the class chose these to because they were the best that matched well with this unit. We chose approaches to learning because we are learning something new and trying out different things such as videoing and acting as a class, as a person from long ago.

We chose communicators because throughout this unit we express ideas and information creatively. We are also using different languages. Another reason is because we are all working together as a class with each other. This will be a tough unit but also a fun and creative one too.

The final project is to act the script out that the english A students wrote and film it. The materials that would be used are things like the camera, basic stationaries, script and the computer. The unit question is "How can we create a video presentation of a Shakespeare play that will appeal to modern day viewers". The unit question relates to the project becasuse we are creating a video that is based on a play that shakespeare wrote. Not only we have to create a video but we have to make it fun that will appeal the modern day viewers.

From this unit i expect to learn how to make jokes and act them out and how to film properly and lots of things about talk shows and news. I will also learn more about the book and will become much more familiar to it than before. My experience with shakespeare isn't alot. I only read "The merchant of Venice" and that is about it. Personally shakespeare don't interest me and i don't get it easily. For me it's not only boring but hard. Although throught this project i will be able to have fun with it.

The answer to the unit question is that we have to make a video that is funny and not in a hard language. While filming we have to put in a lot of humour that the modern day viewers would like and effects. Also we have to choose a video script that is scandalous and interesting.

Changes of the plan

Evaluation

Rebekah Shin
March 15th of 2010
Evaluation
This project was an overall fun and interesting unit. This was not the first time I had worked on a unit like this but this unit was fun and easy to follow. The information that we had to include and the information that were required were not too much and it was easy for me to understand it and have fun with the project. Also the reason why I enjoyed this unit is because it was interesting to find out all sorts of new information’s.
Investigation
The investigating part wasn’t that hard because all the needed information was given with the sheet at the beginning of the unit. It had the necessary information such as the inventors of the invention and the date and the history behind the ball point pen.
Plan
The plan that I made this time was very clear and neat also reasonable but I was not able to follow it completely. For the first few days I had it perfectly fine but once it was the weekends I didn’t follow it completely. This made me work a bit more and made me work on it on Tuesday when it wasn’t intended to.
Create
The part when I had to create the poster was easy and simple. I started to work on it at school but wasn’t able to finish it. So, I went home and didn’t work on it during the weekends and ended up working on Tuesday. All I had to do was to print out few paragraphs and sentences and stick it onto the poster. Also add a bit more color to it and write a bit more information on the poster.
My product was a success because I was able to get it done on time with the necessary information. The test was to find out weather the ball point pen was used or not by students. The results were that 8 out of 9 people sometimes use the ball point pen and only one ticked all the time. The next question was if a ball point pen was better than a normal pen. The results are that more than a half of the people perfer ball point pens rather than just a normal pen. They said a ball point pen was better because it was softer and much comfortable. Also I found out that in every household there is at least one or more ball point pens.
This survey was to see how well used the ball point pens are from students and the results are that it is well used but there are some down sides to it. The down sides are that sometimes the ball point pen dries up or the ink clots and makes smudges. The survey was a success too because I was able to find out more facts of ball point pens and how students think about it.
For further improvement I would improve on the amount of information on the poster. I would have wanted to add a bit more on the survey results. The second improvement would be to make it a bit more attracting and flashy! Looking at other posters I found out that my poster was not too bright and attracting. The third improvement would be to add more pictures as an example or even a real ball point pen stuck onto the poster. This would have made the poster really stand out.

Detailed Test;
The type of test that I’m going to be doing is on how well the ball point pen actually does work and weather if people prefer using it or not. I will have 9 people taking the test. I will be making them use a ball point pen. The pen that they will be using will be the same kind. Then they are to decide and tell me which they prefer using a regular pen or a ball point pen. These are the questions they will be answering:
1. Which one do you think is easier to use? Ball point pen or just a normal pen?
2. Do you use ball point pens regularly?
3. Do you own a ball point pen?
4. If you do then tell us what are the bad things about it.
This will be a simple test that would only take between 5 to 10 minutes. Although it may be a short test this will give me an idea on weather a ball point pen is popular amongst our ages and up. The people I will be asking are 4 boys and 5 girls. They will also differ by where the come from. So, for the guy I will survey one Korean, one Ghanaian, a Russian and a Mongolian. For the girl I will be surveying one Korean, a Mongolian, a German, one USA and one Lithuanian. The list that I chose here differ because then I will be able to get different culture preferences. The survey sheet will be made and printed out before.

Poster test;
1. Is is neat?
2. Is it clear?
3. Does it have the basic and important information?

The unit question: How do inventors come up with ideas and create their inventions?
Inventors come up with the idea after their years of experience with the things they use. For example the ball point pen. Just a random journalist got tired of working with ink pens that dried quickly and did not turn out neat. Then he decided to invent a pen that is efficient and that does not smudge. So, then he started to work out a way to invent it. He got the idea and made his first design and started to sell them. So, the ideas just doesn’t pop in a persons head “just like that” but it comes to mind when it needs improvement. They create their inventions with the help of other people and also create it by using the things around them.
Although sometimes inventors may come up with the ideas by researching them. Becoming an inventor is not an easy job. You have to do your research and survey people to see weather it is needed or not. Researching is not an easy job to do, you have to look up at all the consequences of it and weather it is profitable or not. If its not then you just wasted you time and money.
Creating Ones invention is not that hard but coming up with the design may be, in order to creates something that no one had ever seen or had is tough. You need to be creative but also realistic.

Criterion A

This semester's unit is called "Inventions and Inventors". It is an interesting unit so far. This units's main question is "How do inventors come up with ideas and create their inventions"?
This question is supposed to be answered in our final assessment when we are presenting. This units learner profile is being a Risk-taker and from the AOI we, as the class chose Human ingenutiy.
Basically what we have to do is, first we had to make a list of apporperiate questions about the invention or the inventor and research on it. While researching we had to copy the URL. When we are done we had to post it on our blogs. This was all due last class and this part was the investigation.
Later on we have to put the URL's into a correct citation format and post it again on our blogs also we have to write a paragraph or more on what the unit is and what we have to do. The unit is basically to research about an invention that we chose and later on present it to the class. The way we present it can be either written, audio or however you want.
This unit seems to be really fun and free. The fact that we are all kinda interested in this unit would make a difference on how each of us would present it.
This unit is relevant because it is linked with the whole semesters unit.

Ouestions and Answers about the Inventor and the Invention :)

The Ball Point Pen
1. How much does a regular pen cost?
The cost of the pen tends to differ by the shape and the amount in it. Sometimes it’s sold in packets and sometimes it not. They usually cost no more than 4 dollars mostly.

2. What is the definition of a good ball point pen?
A definition of a good pen is when it doesn’t smudge too much and when the ink dries up quickly when applied onto the paper, also when it is cheap and in good quality.

3. Did ball point pens influence anything?
Yes, it did influence our lives. It enhanced the way we write and the speed of writing, also the number of people who use it. It mainly improved the way astronauts wrote, because ball point pens were the kind of pens that did not explode or leak on zero gravity. So, by this the people outer space tended to use pens instead of pencils.

4. Is it possible to re-use a ball point pen?
Yes, it is possible you can change the ink once it’s finished. You can either refill or replace the ink.

5. Are ball point pens still popular today? Are they still used?
Yes, they are they are used in our everyday life. In each house there are several or more ball point pens at home. These pens don’t leak which then are popular amongst business people and even students. Also the fact that it is simple and easy to use attracts more consumers. They are popular because they are efficient, cheap, and good and are mostly in good quality.

6. Ball point pen and pen manufactures.
-BIC
-Monami
-Montblanc
-Cartier

7. Are there different types, colors of ball point pens?
Yes, there are variety of colors such as blue, black and red. Mostly it’s these 3 main colors but sometimes there’s purple, pink, green and etc…
Also there are different types of ball point pens there are some with a turning effect and another type is when you press the top and the spring. The spring then will press down the pen’s ink. There are even other types like a cap pen.

8. How did the biro brothers think of making the ball point pen using a ball on the tip?
They came up with the idea of inventing the whole ball point pen, when Laszlo was working on a newspaper. He realized that the ink dried up really quickly and it often smudged and got messy. He was tired of it, so he invented the ball point pen. They got the idea of using a ball on the tip of the pen from a deodorant. The deodorant also works by a ball on the tip and when it is rolled the liquid comes out. With this in mind that is how the ball point pen works as well.

9. What are the bad sides of using a ball point pen?
There aren’t too much problems with the ball point pen. Only that sometimes when you write there could be an ink blot on your paper which then will lead to smudges.

10. How did ball point pens end up being famous? It was famous for its capability of being used in high altitudes. Often other pens such as fountain pens would explode or even leak but the ball point pen did not. It was also famous for its good quality and its cheap price. Also because the ink dries as soon as it’s applied onto the paper.

Evaluation for Inventions and Inventors

Evaluation
This unit was a called “Inventions and Inventors”, it was a fun and interesting unit. Aiste and I had some difficulties in the beginning but at the end it was easy and fun. This project was focused on human ingenuity and risk taker. We the class chose these two because it seemed to be the most well connected. By being a risk taker we take risks and as an inventor we need to take wild risks don’t knowing weather it will succeed or not. Without being a risk taker a person can’t experience new things.
Then we chose human ingenuity because inventions are something that Man make and invent. We invent new things for a good cause and sometimes for a bad cause. For this unit these two things fit the best.

Investigation:
For the investigation we went online and started to research. We even did a survey of the class. We asked our classmates and over a half of them said that they did not want to buy it because it is not that necessary. We also researched by using books and internets and found some facts. We found that there is a solar panel that can also heat up a building and etc… We tried to get as much as information but there didn’t seem to be a lot. We also looked at pictures of normal key detectors and got some ideas of how to design our key detector. During the research although we couldn’t get as much information as we could have we got the basic and essential ones. We found few information on the different kinds of solar power and how the solar panle on the calculator works. We also found out which parts to change to the key detector and which parts to make better.

Design:
Aiste and I had started on our design a bit late. No matter, we had come up with a good design. We decided to make a 3d model of the solar key detector instead of a poster. We were going to have the actual feature of the detector. It was going to be big so, everyone could see it and it was going to be interesting with wires inside it, showing. Our design of the solar key detector was that on the front there will be a speaker, solar panel, 2 lights and a button to press on. On the back would be another solar panel, speaker, censor and a battery change. We decided to have 2 solar panels and 2 speakers just incase the key detector is put upside down. We thought of many different designs but after combining our 6 other designs we came up with this one. To us, it seemed efficient and useful. Also we decided on that the key detector is 7cm width and 8 cm length. We also decided that there are different shapes and colors. This way we thought that it would attract more buyers.

Plan:
Our original plan was to meet on Saturdays and Sundays to start and finish the key detector but it did not happen. We did not meet on the first Saturday because of some reasons but we did meet on Sunday. Although we did not meet on Saturday we had most of the material that we needed ready like the spray paint, glue, tape, box and oasis and so on also not to mention wires… Also on Monday we worked on some more of the design and typed some information. Also we spray painted the box after school. Then on Wednesday we typed all the information and it was ready. So, then we were supposed to meet again on Saturday the 6th and Sunday the 7th but we only met on Sunday and printed everything out and started to glue everything on the box. The plan was changed from time to time because we did not have the time to meet, but we still got it done: D.

Create:
We created the box and it was a lot of fun. While, spray painting the smell of the box was horrible and very very strong but we dealt with it. We had not bought enough black so, we ended up cutting up half of the box in order to keep it pretty. While creating it we did have some problems for instance the glue did not stick onto the oasis and that the smell of spray paint was too strong that we had to do it carefully. We overall had fun creating this product. The box was interesting enough on the inside with all the wires and information. The outside could have been done a bit better but we’re both very pleased and satisfied with it.
